[ Image Banner ]
The Image Banner displays a different image each time your web
page is accessed.
For
this tutorial, we assume that you know the bare essentials of
FrontPage. For basic help, take a look at the
Guest Counter Tutorial which has
a lot more detail.
[Instructions for Notepad]
To get your Image Banner working as quickly as possible, simply follow
the step-by-step instructions listed below.
- Create
a new FrontPage page. This will give you a new, clean, Dynamic Tools
workroom. Give the page a heading;
seems appropriate at this stage.
- Enter
some descriptive text, such as:
|
The following image will change each time this page is
accessed:
|
|
- Time
to plug in the Image Banner. From the FrontPage toolbar, select
"Insert" then "Advanced" then "HTML".
Type the following into the new window, exactly as it is shown
below;
If you need reassurance that
something has been done, click on the "HTML" tab at the
bottom of the page. You should be able to see the new text about
half way down the page.
- Now
save the web page (for now, call it "dynamic_banner.html").
If you want to create a "hyperlink" door from your hall
(i.e. index.html) into this room, now is the time to do it.
- Next,
upload your Image Banner Workroom to your web site, open your
Internet browser, and view the page. At this stage, you will only
see this message:
The Dynamic Tool has created a new directory (called
"banner") in the home directory of your web site.
This directory is for you to put your images in. Imagine that
directories within your web site represent different floors of your
house. The home directory is your ground floor, where you keep all
the important rooms (such as your living room). The banner
directory, however, is a place where stuff is stored, and can
therefore be thought of as your basement!
- You
now need to put some images in your basement. Do this by uploading
the required files into the banner directory of your web site. You
can use as many images as you want to (within reason!). Once you've
done this, use your browser to view your Image Banner workroom.
One of your images will be displayed. Click reload a few times, and
watch the image change!
|
Note - You can only use images that are in the GIF format and
have a ".gif" extension.

Image Banner Options
OK. You've mastered the bare essentials. There are a few other
things that you may want to do with your banner. These are listed
below:
- Resizing your Image Banner. Make the image as big or
as small as you like!
- Using multiple Image Banners, each with different sets
of images. To do
this, you will need to have more than one basement to store your
images in. Don't worry, you can have as many as you like!
For instructions on how to perform these tasks, you'll need to read
the Dynamic Tools
Reference Section on Image Banners.
